Author Interview: Tor Falcon
Q&A with the contributors from the latest issue of Hinterland - and news that we are once again open for submissions.
Tor Falcon studied Fine Art Painting at Norwich School of Art. She works in series on big projects, drawing and writing about landscape. Recent projects include: Peddars Way: a walk with chalk, an exhibition and publication of a book at Abbott & Holder, in London; Rivers of Norfolk, an exhibition and publication of a book at Norwich Castle Museum Art Gallery, the exhibition then moved to London; and Sugar Beet Moon, an exhibition and publication of book at Abbott and Holder, in London. Sugar Beet Moon won the East Anglian Book Awards non-fiction prize in February. She is in conversation with our associate editor Yin F Lim in Issue 17.
What’s the last thing (except for this!) that you wrote?
An art shop shopping list for pastels. It goes something like:
A7, D15, YGE10…
What’s a recent discovery that you can’t keep quiet about?
Anna Jones’ cookbook Easy Wins. Everything in it is delicious.
Words to live by…
Go outside.
Tell us something about yourself that surprises people...
I’ve got a very good sense of smell. In another life I think I could have been a professional ‘nose’!
Can you tell us about your latest book, Sugar Beet Moon?
It’s about that slippery customer the Moon. Looking at it, drawing it, losing it, finding it, stumbling about in the dark and feeling the spin of the universe.
Submissions Open
With the latest issue about to be released, we are open for non-fiction submissions once again, both full-length (up to 5000 words) and flash (1250 words). Although we’re open to submissions on any topic, we’re particularly interested in pieces that address the theme of nurturing, parenting and relationships with one’s parents.
You can read the submission guidelines and submit here. Both submission calls close at the end of October.
